The 2nd Sunday of Advent

This week we celebrate the Second Sunday of Advent. The Messiah is the long awaited one.  Jesus was sent to fulfill the promise of the Old Testament.  He came as the One who upset the culture – he cared for the widows and orphans, he healed the sick, ate with sinners, selected 12 apostles that most people would not consider befriending, and with an “electricity” about him that caused others to follow him.  He was preceded by John the Baptist warning people to “repent, for the Kingdom of heaven is at hand!”  John the Baptist fulfilled the words of Isaiah as “the voice of one crying out in the desert.  Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.”

How are we preparing for the coming of the Lord?  Is our time filled with tasks that “need” to be done?  Is spending time with the Lord part of our preparations for Christmas?  Do we even want to take time to be with the Lord as we prepare our hearts and souls?  Is it with a sense of peace that we look forward to a few minutes (or more) with the Lord or is it with a sense of apprehension?  Take time…

Remember to attend Sr. Diane Zerfas’ Presentation on “Mary, Mother of God” (a reflection on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception) on Sunday, December 8thThis year it will be held immediately after the 11:00 a.m. Mass at St. Mary Parish.  Delicious treats will be provided!  Please bring your family and friends – both parishes are welcome!
