The 14th Sunday of Ordinary Time

This week we celebrate the 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time.  In the Second Reading “… you are in the spirit, if only the Spirit of God dwells in you” touched my heart as I paused to reflect on the word “Spirit” – what does it mean?   God within us allows us to be creative, filled with joy, ecstatic with the anticipation of loving God who dwells within us through our baptism, a gust of wind as the disciples received the Holy Spirit … what images come to each of us in prayer?                                                             Being guided by the Spirit is also reflected in Matthew’s Gospel -“Come to me all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me…” - if we allow our burdens and responsibilities to drag us down then we may not realize the Spirit within us – we must offer our troubles, sorrows, responsibilities, journeys, etc. to the Spirit within who will provide solace and rest.

During this Independence Day week-end take some time to rest in the Lord – allow the cares that concern us to be lifted to the Lord so that we can truly begin again after we have rested – physically, spiritually, emotionally, or socially.  Take time…
